Duluth Woman Arrested on Prescription Fraud Charge

After the arrest, Gwinnett Police found several containers for prescription medications in her vehicle.

A Duluth woman was arrested recently on a charge of obtaining a prescription by fraud after a store employee alerted police to the incident, according to police.

According to Gwinnett Police, Elizabeth Marie Thomas of an East Mount Tabor Circle address was arrested on Nov. 7 after trying to fill a prescription for hydrocodone.

Police were alerted by a pharmacy employee, who said that the suspect also picked up a fraudulent prescription for hydrocodone on Oct. 29.

In both cases, the suspect gave the pharmacy a particular physician's name.  However, the doctor told police that neither he nor his assistant called in the prescriptions.

The phone number that the suspect said belonged to the physician was actually a pediatrics office in Gwinnett where the suspect worked, according to the incident report.

After the arrest, the police impounded and searched Thomas' vehicle. They found containers for prescriptions for oxcodone, hydrocodone, tramadol, and microgestin, according to the incident report. Some containers still contained the medications. All the prescriptions were in the suspect's name.

According to ask.com, microgestin used in the prevention of pregnancy and to regulate the menstrual cycle. Hydrocodone, oxcodone and tramadol are regarded as pain relievers, according to wikipedia.org.

Police planned to investigate further regarding the prescriptions found in the vehicle.
