Duluth Seeking Citizens for Police Academy

Classes emphasizing information will begin in January.

Duluth residents can get an up-close look at the police department by becoming involved in the latest Citizens Police Academy.

According to a police news release, applications are now being accepted for the 30-hour course, which will run Jan. 23-May 24, 2014.

Classes will meet every other Thursday, from 7-10 p.m. at the department, which is located at 3276 Buford Highway, Duluth, 30096.

According to the release, classes will provide information on different aspects of law enforcement, including laws of arrest, patrol techniques, domestic violence and crisis intervention, firearms safety, crime scene management, and traffic enforcement.

Participants will be able to utilize the scenario-based shooting simulator, as well as do some hands-on driving of a patrol vehicle.

Class size is limited, and City of Duluth residents will be given first priority.  
Participants must be 21 or older with a valid driver’s license. 
Participants must submit to a criminal background check.
