A Duluth man is facing several child molestation charges in connection with an incident that involved his niece, according to police.

Jerome McMurtry of a Davenham Way address was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center on Dec. 13, according to jail records. Charges were several counts of child molestation, and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Gwinnett Police initially responded to a call in Lawrenceville, according to the incident report. The complainant said that on Dec. 11 around midnight, the victim, her daughter, came into her room and woke up her and her husband.

The victim told her parents that the suspect touched her front private part with his two fingers twice, the report said.

The complainant said that her husband got up and demanded that the suspect leave, and the suspect was driven home that night.

On Dec. 13, the victim stayed home from school because her throat hurt. When the victim's mother called her daughter at home to check on her, the victim started to cry, the report said.

The victim then told her mother that between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Dec. 11, the suspect showed the victim his penis and began to perform an action on the victim from behind while they were in the victim's brother's bedroom alone, according to the report.

The mother said the victim told her she was afraid to tell her whole story because the suspect told her not to tell anyone, the report said.

That is when the victim's mother contacted police.
