Duluth Fire Destroys House, Displaces Family of 4

Exact cause of the fire still undetermined. The fire appears to have originated in the garage area.

A house fire around lunchtime Saturday in Duluth displaced a family of four. The family was not at home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries, according to Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge

A neighbor reported the fire at the split-level single-family home in the 3300 block of Grovewood Lane at 11:50 a.m. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:02 p.m

The exact cause of the fire is still undetermined, Rutledge reported Monday. The fire appears to have originated in the garage area and spread to the rest of the house, he said.

“Crews found heavy fire showing from the split-level wood frame house on arrival. The home and contents were a total loss due to the fire,” Rutledge said. A tractor (piece of heavy equipment) was called to the scene to assist firefighters with separating debris and taking down walls to uncover hotspots and completely extinguish the fire, he said.

The Red Cross was notified to assist the family, Rutledge said.
