Car Crashes Into Apartment's Sliding Glass Door

Two adult males inside apartment were not injured. Firefighters respond to report of tractor trailer fire in separate incident.

Gwinnett Firefighters responded about 11:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a car crashing into the sliding glass door of an occupied apartment in an apartment building in the 2000 block of Arbor Drive in Duluth.

Two people (adult males) were home at the time, but were not injured, Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge reported. The car crashed about two foot inside the building in a back bedroom area. "We are fortunate that no one was inside the bedroom at the time of the incident," said Rutledge.

The car was being driven by an adult female who lived in a separate apartment within the same complex. It is unclear at this point as to what may have caused the accident, Rutledge said. The woman was transported to the hospital for evaluation of a minor injury, he said.

"The damage was considered minor (cosmetic only) and did not cause any structural instability or hazards," Rutledge said.

A short time later, firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a tractor trailer on fire at the end of Satellite Pointe in Duluth. The fire was reported by a passerby who saw flames and smoke coming from the truck and called the fire department from a nearby business.

Firefighters found a vehicle on fire on the rear part of the car hauler (tractor trailer) upon arrival about 11:56 a.m., Rutledge reported. One vehicle on the car hauler was considered a total loss, and a second vehicle on the hauler received exposure damage, he said.

The car hauler was parked in the cul-de-sac, and no one was with the vehicle when the fire department arrived, Rutledge said. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and under active investigation, he said. There were no injuries and no other damages reported, Rutledge said.
