Andruw Jones Threatened, Injured Wife During Domestic Incident

The former Atlanta Braves star was drinking before the Christmas Day incident at their home in unincorporated Duluth, according to police.

Former Atlanta Braves star outfielder Andruw Jones left "visible" injuries around his wife's neck and threatened her during an incident at their Duluth home that led to his arrest early Christmas Day, according to Gwinnett Police.

Jones' wife made the 911 call to Gwinnett Police about 1:25 a.m. on Christmas Day, the incident report says.

Jones consumed "several" alcoholic beverages during a Christmas Eve party at their home in the Sugarloaf development, the Gwinnett Police report says. After the final guests had left, Jones' wife reminded him that they needed to prepare the home for Christmas morning.

After the couple went into the garage to assemble a computer desk, Jones became "belligerent" with his wife, grabbed her by her left arm and dragged her across the floor of the garage.

She managed to break free and went back into the house, and he followed her there. When she headed up the stairs to the second floor, Jones grabbed her by her ankle, dragged her down a few of the stairs and got on top of her. He then put his hands around her neck and said, "I want to kill you," the police report says.

Due to Jones' level of intoxication, his wife said she was able to push him back and move away from him. After Jones retired to the bedroom, his wife left the house and went to her parents' house, which is a short distance away.

Police met with Jones' wife at her parents' house, and she led them to Jones, who was asleep on the bed at the couples' residence.

When police awoke Jones, he appeared "dazed and heavily intoxicated" and "confused about why officers were standing in his bedroom."

He eventually had trouble standing up, and the report noted "the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath."

Jones eventually was handcuffed and booked for battery. He was released on $2,400 bond later Christmas Day.

Jones, 35, played for the Braves from 1996-2007, winning several Gold Glove awards. He has a career total of 435 home runs. He has a contract to play in Japan next season.
