What's So Great About Getting Older?

Appreciating the Wonderful Things That Come With Aging

You were around for disco in the ‘70s. You remember when Neil Armstrong took his famous first step on the moon in ’69. You watched the Lone Ranger in the ‘50s. Maybe you recall the end of World War II in ’46. Whether you are 60 or 100, you may sometimes feel like you’re getting older – but let’s think about all the good things about that.

In honor of October’s “International Day of Older Persons,” here’s a list of the best things about getting older:

·         You can dress however you want! No fashion police will pick on you, so don’t worry about wearing white after Labor Day.

·         You have the freedom to take that second honeymoon or trip with friends. Chances are you are retired or about to hit that milestone. Now is the best time to take an extended vacation.

·         You are wiser. You’ve learned a lot in your life about relationships, family and yourself. You can pass your advice on to younger generations and guide your grandchildren to make good decisions.

·         Act as crazy as you want – people expect you to be a little eccentric. So go ahead and cut in line; no one is going to stop you.

·         You have so many great memories. As you look back through your photo album, you can smile at all of the wonderful times you have had and know that many good times are still coming.

·         You now have an excuse for getting out of lifting heavy boxes, cooking Thanksgiving dinner and driving long distances. Just pull the “I’m too old for that” card!

·         Last, but definitely not least – senior discounts. Who doesn’t want a less expensive movie?

There are so many great things about getting older. As we celebrate “International Day of Older Persons,” it’s nice to be reminded of all the wonderful things that come with the grey hair!
