Obituary ~ Sharon Abner

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Duluth First United Methodist Church for Sharon Abner, who served as the church’s Facilities Coordinator. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. 

She passed away Feb. 25 from complications after a recent fall at her home.  

Mrs. Abner began working at Duluth First United Methodist Church as a teacher and assistant director of the Christian Beginnings Pre-school 30 years ago. She then took on the job of church custodian, eventually becoming Facilities Coordinator.

A maintenance fund established this past year to cover major items that needed repair or replacement not included in the normal church operating budget will now be known as the Sharon Abner Maintenance Fund.  

She is survived by her husband Ron Abner; son, Chris Abner and wife Rebecca; daughter, Heather LaFlamme and husband Tim, along with seven grandchildren.

The funeral for Mrs. Abner was held in Franklin, Ga, at the Tom Stutts Funeral Home Feb. 27 with burial in the Welcome United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sharon Abner Maintenance Fund at Duluth First United Methodist Church.
