Duluth Girl Selected to Participate in National Girls' Conference

Gracie Kirschner is the only young woman chosen from Georgia to participate in Discovery Girl's first tween summit.

A Duluth girl has been chosen to participate in the upcoming inaugural Discovery Girl Tween Summit.

Gracie Kirschner, 10, is one of 36 girls selected from a pool of 8,000 applicants who was selected. She was the only girl selected from Georgia for the summit, which takes place July 20-26 in San Francisco.

In addition to participating in the summit, Gracie also will be featured in a future issue of Discovery Girls magazine.

Organizers of the event said Gracie's "perspectives and attitudes about issues facing today’s tween-age girls make her an ideal candidate." Officials also said that she embodied leadership, compassion, determination and enthusiasm.

Discover Girls, Inc., is a California-based company that focuses on empowering young women. Along with other things, the company publishes a magazine that reaches a million households a month.

The July event is the organization's first tween summit. Organizers hope it opens more discussions about pressures girls face in school, the community, and at home.
