Duluth Fireworks Rescheduled

Rained-out July 3 fireworks show to light up sky after Sept. 22 free community concert on Duluth Town Green.

The large crowd of folks who were disappointed after heavy rain generated by a summer thunderstorm forced cancellation of fireworks at “Duluth Celebrates America” July 3 at Scott Hudgens Park will have the opportunity to see the show after all.

Alisa Williams, director of public information and marketing, announced at the Duluth City Council meeting Monday (Sept. 10) that the rained-out fireworks display has been rescheduled to light up the sky after the free Sept. 22 community concert hosted by the Duluth Fall Festival Committee on the . The concert occurs a week before the festival opens.

“We’re excited to be able to do this for the festival on its 30th anniversary,” Williams said. Safety concerns about setting off the fireworks downtown have been addressed, she said. “The (Gwinnett) Fire Department is comfortable with it.”

“Eddie Owen Presents” is providing bluegrass musician Roxie Watson as the opening act for the Saturday pre-festival concert on the Duluth Festival Center Stage. Livin’ Large, a dance party band, will headline the concert.

The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. Other activities include a parade of chairmen wearing T-shirts from the years they chaired the festival, a memorabilia tent of festival artifacts, and complimentary desserts.

The 30th Anniversary Duluth Fall Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 & 30, on the Duluth Town Green is expected to attract an attendance of 100,000. A carnival opens across from Duluth City Hall the Thursday before the festival and continues through Sunday. Discount carnival tickets will again be available for Friday and Saturday nights.

Festival components include a parade, arts and craft booths, food vendors, live entertainment, children’s activities, a road race, and more.
