Best of the Road Team Spends Two Days in Duluth

Duluth one of six finalists for title of 'Most Patriotic City.' Winner to be announced in mid-July.

A judging team from the Best of the Road contest sponsored by Rand McNally and USA Today visited Duluth for two days last week.

Sandi McKenna and Rick Griffin spent two days visiting Duluth places, meeting folks and attending events Wednesday and Thursday including Duluth City Hall, the on the Duluth Town Green and the D. Mayor Nancy Harris, Alisa Williams, director of public information and marketing for the city, and Chris McGahee, economic development manager, led their tour.

McKenna and Griffin comprise “Midlife Road Trip,” one of five two-member teams of amateur travelers visiting cities in the “Best of the Road” contest. Duluth has been named a finalist for “Most Patriotic City.” Other finalists are Gainesville, TX; ManDan, ND; DeLand, FL; Watertown, NY; and Enterprise, AL.

The city had kept its Memorial Day flags on display in anticipation of their visit. The winners in several categories are expected to be announced in mid-July.
