Community Spirit Evident at Duluth Fall Festival Lunch

The Community Luncheon brings everyone involved together during the midst of preparations on the Friday before the festival opening.

In the midst of setting up tents and booths, assisting vendors and making other preparations for the Duluth Fall Festival Friday, volunteers stopped near noontime to take a break. They sat down together for a Community Luncheon at the Duluth Festival Center on the Duluth Town Green.

The luncheon for volunteers, sponsors, city staff, police, firefighters, public works personnel and other festival workers is an annual tradition the day before the festival opens.

Barbara Howard of Suzanna’s Kitchen again provided barbecue with all the fixings, and volunteers brought desserts. The desserts are shared with military participants in the parade and opening ceremonies Saturday.

Kathryn Willis, Duluth Fall Festival founder and chairman of the 2012 festival, says every year that the Community Luncheon is her favorite festival event because it brings everyone involved together. And she said it again this year.

The 2012 festival is special because it is the 30th Anniversary of the annual event held on the last weekend in September on the Duluth Town Green.
