Call Issued for Clean-up Volunteers

Duluth City Councilman Billy Jones seeking 'Duluth Matters' volunteers to pick up trash and clear underbrush at former Cash & Sons property downtown.

Duluth City Councilman Billy Jones has issued a call for “Duluth Matters” volunteers to clean up the former Cash & Sons site in downtown Duluth. Work will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.

The property is located between the Duluth City Cemetery, Big Jim’s Landscaping and the railroad. Illegal dumping has been occurring on the vacant site, Jones said.

Volunteers will be picking up trash and clearing underbrush on the site. The debris will be piled up for collection and disposal by Duluth Department of Public Works employees.

Jones asked that volunteers bring rakes, shovels, axes, limb saws, pole saws, and wheelbarrows. He is also seeking donations of food, beverages and bottled water for workers. Cash contributions are welcome, too, Jones said.

The councilman recently formed “Duluth Matters” to help with various community improvement projects in Duluth. The first project involved making minor repairs and painting the basement at the Red Clay Theatre.

To volunteer or make donations, contact Jones at bjones@duluthga.net.

Workday is still on! I still need volunteers that can work any part of the day.
