Gwinnett AKAs, Gwinnett Nonprofit, Debutantes, and Santa Claus Partner to End Hunger and Poverty

Tis The Season to Serve: AKA’s, Debutantes and Santa Slated to Raise Money for Heifer International and Collect Toys for Children Affected by Oklahoma Tornado

Santa has checked his list, in fact he has checked it twice. All who join members of the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (“UAO”), members of The Gwinnett Pearls of Service Foundation, Inc. (“GPS”), and the 2013-2014 Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter Debutante Scholarship Program Debutantes for “Flapjacks with Santa” on Saturday, December 7 at  Applebee's, 2095 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, GA from 8 am to 10 am, will not be considered naughty, but instead be considered nice. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at https://uaoflapjackfundraiser.eventbrite.com.

Tis the season to be jolly and serve thy fellow man. To that end, members of the community are being asked to join the Gwinnett AKA’s in the fight to end world hunger and poverty.  Tickets to “Flapjacks with Santa” are $7 each and will support the sorority’s partnership with Heifer International. Heifer International's mission is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the Earth. Attendees will enjoy a scrumptious breakfast while helping to provide families with a future free from hunger and the tools for transformation.

Karan Rhodes, President, Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter said,  “As we embark on this season of giving, UAO is proud to implement efforts which not only impact our local Gwinnett community, but also will make a small dent in the crisis of global poverty- both domestically and internationally.”

"We are very excited to partner with Applebee's in implementing UAO's first flapjack fundraising breakfast to help raise money for Heifer International; one of our National Partners,” added Andria Daniels, Vice President/Program Chairman, Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter.

Moreover, none other than Santa Claus himself will be onsite at Applebee’s to take individual photos with kids and "kids at heart".  Community members are being asked to bring an unwrapped toy for Santa's bag in order to take a picture with Santa. Toys collected will be donated to the children affected by the destructive and deadly Oklahoma tornado.

"The 2013-2014 Debutantes will support UAO chapter members during the flapjack fundraiser, said Adelma Stanford, Debutante Scholarship Program Chairman. “The debutantes will collect new unwrapped toys that will be shared with the victims of the deadly tornado that struck near Oklahoma City earlier this year. The debutantes want to ensure the children affected will have a wonderful holiday season."

Tis always the season to serve for members of UAO and GPS. Speaking of service, members of UAO are excited about the Debutante Scholarship Program- and promise experiences participants won’t soon forget. The program’s time of preparation will be filled with activities, such as character development and social etiquette workshops, college preparation activities and community service. The experience will offer opportunities for the young women to broaden their perspectives educationally, socially and culturally. In addition to the life changing experience mentioned, debutantes will have the opportunity to fundraise and receive an educational scholarship to assist them in their strides to higher education.
