Wind, Cold Weather Advisories Issued for Area

National Weather Service warns of wind gusts up to 35 mph tonight and temperatures ranging from 15 to 20 degrees Tuesday morning.

 

The National Weather Service has issued two weather advisories for the local area, including Duluth nd Gwinnett County.

The first is a wind advisory that remains in effect from now until 1 a.m. Tuesday in north and central Georgia. Expect winds from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. These winds are expected to diminish as the night wears on. A wind advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 20 mph or gusts to 35 mph or stronger are expected. The NWS is warning that winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Drivers are advised to use extra caution.

In a second advisory -- a Special Weather Statement -- the NWS is warning of very cold wind chill readings expected Tuesday morning.

  • Hazard Type - cold and breezy conditions
  • Wind chill readings between 5 and 10 degrees above zero
  • Between midnight Monday through mid-morning Tuesday.
  • Winds northwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph
  • Minimum temperatures 15 to 20 degrees

These cold wind chill readings could result in frost bite if precautions are not taken. The NWS advises anyone venturing outdoors Tuesday morning should be sure to wear a hat and gloves.
