Tree to be Lit on Town Green Saturday, Dec. 3

Duluth community to usher in Christmas season with caroling, Santa arriving in sleigh with live reindeer.

The Duluth community will welcome the Christmas season with caroling and a tree lighting ceremony tonight.

The Lighting of the Duluth Tree is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, on the .

The Duluth High School Chorus will sing carols in prior to the ceremony. City Hall is decked out in festive decorations for the holidays. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

The chorus later will join a holiday program on the Stage. The program also will feature Chattahoochee Elementary School students and a special vocalist. The tree will be lit as "O Holy Night" is sung.

The ceremony culminates with Santa arriving in a sleigh pulled by live reindeer. Santa will hand out candy canes, listen to children's Christmas wishes, and pose for photos.

The tree lighting ceremony is sponsored by the city of Duluth and the Duluth Fall Festival Committee and is co-chaired by Councilman Greg Whitlock and Kay Montgomery. "The Lighting of the Tree is a wonderful tradition in downtown Duluth, and there is nothing as meaningful to me at Christmas than this annual event," Montgomery said.
