St. Patrick's Day Fun in Duluth

There are parties and concerts this weekend at local taverns and music venues.

Looking for a place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Duluth? The are parties and concerts this weekend leading up to the holiday on Sunday, March 17.

Arena Tavern is hosting “Duluth’s Largest St. Paddy Festival” featuring live music, authentic Irish food, contests and more. Yuengling pints will be available for $2.50 to go along with homemade Irish lamb stew and corned beef and cabbage. The three-day party started Friday and continues through Sunday. Festivities start at 11 a.m. each day.

An Early St. Paddy’s Day Party Saturday, March 16, at Craze Tavern offers live entertainment. Colin DeNoya will play Irish acoustical music from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Denim Arcade will follow with 80s dance music and pop from 9 to 10:30 p.m. Then, from 11 p.m. until closing, the Lost Boys will perform rock, Irish and Renaissance music.

The Buddy O’Reilly Band will present a lively concert of Irish music at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Red Clay Theatre. The band recreates an intimate home gathering on stage with songs, dancing and banter. The family-oriented performance will feature songs in English and Gaelic and flat-foot (Appalachian-style) clogging by Jesse Edgerton.

The Main Street Symphony will play Irish music and other selections at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Red Clay Theatre. The concert is free.

The Border Collies will perform a post-St. Patrick’s Day concert at Red Clay at 8 p.m. Friday, March 22. The band originated in Duluth in 1999 and has developed a unique mix of traditional and contemporary Irish and Scottish tunes and songs. Duluth residents Michael Robbins on guitars, Caeri Thompson on vocals and penny whistle, and Anna Huthmaker on upright bass and cello, and joined by Kim Barnes on fiddle and Howard Williams on mandolin, harmonica and bodhran.
