'Most Patriotic City' Winner Named

Gainesville, TX, captures patriotism title in Best of the Road contest sponsored by Rand McNally.

Although Gainesville, TX, was announced as the "Most Patriotic City" in the Best of the Road contest sponsored by Rand McNally, Duluth has gotten a lot of attention as one of six finalists for the title.

The Best of the Road winners were announced Tuesday (July 17) at the Destination Marketing Association International's annual meeting in Seattle.

Duluth was visited June 20 and 21 by the team of Rick Griffin and Sandi McKenna, one of 10 two-member teams of amateur travelers involved in determining contest winners. There were other categories beside Most Patriotic City.

The city’s streets had its veterans markers and flags up, and the community rallied to welcome the team. Duluth is also featured in a video filmed by the team.

Other cities in the running for Most Patriotic City were ManDan, ND; DeLand, FL; Watertown, NY; and Enterprise, AL.Β

A show will air July 25Β  on The Travel Channel at 8 p.m. ET featuring all the towns visited on the Best of the Road Tour.

Rand McNally conducted the Best of the Road competition in collaboration with USA Today.
