"Our caregivers immediately enacted their safety procedures, and all patients and residents are safe and comfortable," Desai said in a released statement.

"The safety and well being of our patients and residents is always our first priority, and we are proud of how our caregivers have responded to this situation," he added.

Gwinnett Fire officials reported there was a contract (construction) crew doing roof work over the dining room at the time of the collapse.  They were in the process of removing and replacing the roof decking material when the collapse occurred.

According to fire and corporate officials, no one was inside the dining area at the time of the roof collapse. OSHA and building inspectors were called to the scene to begin looking into what may have caused the collapse.

The incident resulted in a loss of telephone service to the facility. The company has established a telephone help line at 1-800-926-5766 for friends and family members.
