The merchants on Main Street in Historic Downtown Duluth are hosting a celebration to welcome seven new businesses Saturday, Sept. 17, starting at 11 a.m.
After several years of storefront vacancies, it is time to cheer on the merchants opening in time for the Duluth Fall Festival the last weekend in September. Historic Duluth is taking off... come along for the ride!
The community is invited to join in the celebration by painting and decorating blank hot air balloon miniature replicas that will be hung throughout Historic Duluth. Once completed, the artistic hot air balloons will become part of an outdoor art exhibit to be unveild Sept. 17. The hot air balloons will remain on display for 30 days and then be available for pickup. The project is being coordinated by the new Volunteer Community League led by Shelly Howard.
Visitors viewing the outdoor art exhibit are also invited into the shops on Main Street where merchants will host open houses and offer shopping discounts.
Here's how to participate in the art exhibit:
- Pick up your balloon blank replica at Luv of Art, 3127 Main St. (next to Steverino's) between 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. Large balloon is $10, and the small balloon is $5. Luv for Art will provide one hour of free studio time with the purchase of balloon replica and supplies.
- Paint/decorate/embellish your balloon any way you like.
- Return completed masterpieces to Luv of Art no later than Saturday, Sept. 10.
