Gwinnett Medical Center Installs New MRI Machine

New equipment provides more comfortable experience, less anxiety for patients

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Gwinnett Medical Center installed a new MRI machine at the GMC Imaging Center on the Lawrenceville GMC Campus.

The Siemens MAGNETOM Skyra 3T MRI, the first in Gwinnett County, can deliver two-15 times the magnetic field of original MRI machines, according to an announcement by the hospital. It has an increased 70-cm open bore that is more comfortable for patients. The 173-cm design also allows a patient’s head to remain outside the magnet, which reduces anxiety about being in an enclosed space.

“Gwinnett Medical Center is pleased to offer this advanced technology to our patients,” said Karen Kubik, director of Imaging Services for Gwinnett Medical Center-Lawrenceville, in the announcement. “The addition of the Skyra 3T MRI underscores our continued commitment and strides to integrate cutting-edge technologies in our hospital system.”
