Updated 7:28 p.m.

Gwinnett Fire authorities responded Thursday to a gas leak at Pleasant Hill Road and Buford Highway in Duluth.

Traffic in the area was being diverted, and motorists are asked to avoid the area, according to a statement.

Authorities said a construction crew apparently hit a six-inch steel line while digging in the right of way with a backhoe. Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched at 4:38 p.m.

An emergency crew from Atlanta Gas Light was to respond to stop the leak. No injuries were reported as of 6:10 p.m.
