Duluth to Tampa Run Honors Green Beret's Brother

Sgt. Tom MIller's brother SSgt. Robert 'Robbie' Miller was killed in action in Afghanistan.

Local law enforcement officers and firefighters joined Sgt. Tom Miller from the 10th Special Forces Group in Ft. Bragg, NC, at the Living Honorarium on the for the seventh Special Operations Forces Run to honor the Green Beret’s fallen brother.

Operation One Voice, the Georgia-based non-profit organization started by Duluth Police officers and Gwinnett firefighters, kicked off the run from Duluth to Tampa early Monday (Nov. 7) morning. The run honors SSgt. Robert “Robbie” Miller, an Army 3rd Special Forces Group soldier and Medal of Honor recipient killed in action on Jan. 25, 2008 in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.  

Special Operations Forces runners came from across the country to participate in the run with members of the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department, Gwinnett Fire & Emergency Services, Georgia State Patrol, and Duluth Police. The team is comprised of 27 runners and eight support and security personnel.

The runners will cover over 560 miles in just under 73 hours in a relay-style event rain or shine. They will stop at MacDill AFB in Florida Thursday, Nov. 10,  for a veterans ceremony with the U.S. Special Operations Command and then continue on to Busch Gardens in Tampa on Friday, Nov. 11, for the final 2.5 miles and a closing ceremony at 11 a.m.
