Duluth Presenting Health & Fitness Fair Saturday

Exercise demonstrations include yoga, zumba, and kickboxing plus fitness activities for kids.

Put on your fitness togs and tennis shoes Saturday (May 21) for some healthy fun outdoors on the Duluth Town Green. The city is hosting its first annual Health & Fitness Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This free family-friendly event will feature a personal training session with Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris, yoga, zumba, a Fitness Boot Camp, and kickboxing on the Main Stage, according to Alisa Williams, the city's public information and marketing director. The Kids Zone will offer fitness activities including a rock wall, obstacle course, jump rope and hula hoop contests, she said.

More than 30 vendors will be onsite providing health information, samples, nutritional analysis, health screenings, massages, self-defense demonstrations, skincare, vitamins, foot massages, and vision tests.

A nutritious Food Court will be serving healthy options, and the Farmer’s Market will have organic fruits and vegetables, honey, bread, and fresh flowers for sale. Healthy food demonstrations and seminars will be presented in the Gazebo area. Hourly drawings will give away healthy items donated by vendors and sponsors.

The Health and Fitness Fair is being sponsored by Anytime Fitness, Gwinnett Medical Center, Weight Watchers, and the Duluth Parks and Recreation Department.

Staff from Anytime Fitness, a full-service gym located on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Duluth, will demonstrate state-of-the-art gym equipment and conduct the training session with Mayor Harris at 1 p.m.

Gwinnett Medical Center will distribute health information and provide giveaways to attendees.

Weight Watchers will be presenting its new point system and will have counselors at their booth to weigh and calculate body mass index (BMI).

Duluth Parks and Recreation staff will be in the Kids Zone with Summer Camp info, giveaways and activities such as jump rope and hula hoop contests from noon to 1 p.m.
