Duluth Celebrates America Sunday With Family Fun

Festive community celebration features family fun, concert and fireworks at Scott Hudgens Park.

Gather up the children and the lawn chairs for Duluth Celebrates America! Sunday, July 3, at Scott Hudgens Park. The event reflects the community spirit and patriotism of the city’s residents as they celebrate the Fourth of July by playing in the park, listening to music and watching fireworks for the 12th year.

Festivities get underway at 4 p.m. with family-friendly activities including carnival games, inflatables, a rock climbing wall, pony rides, face painting and mini-train rides. Food and drink including beer and wine will be available for sale. A spectacular fireworks show starts at 10 p.m.

Scott Hudgens Park is located off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in River Green Business Park at 4545 River Green Parkway. Admission and parking are free, but monetary donations will be accepted to help offset costs. Attractions and vendors will require a nominal fee.

A stage show featuring music by Déjà vu, Norwood and the Metro Jazz Club opens at 6 p.m. with a welcome by Mayor Nancy Harris and singing of the National Anthem.

Déjà vu, a six-piece Duluth-based party band, will bring the crowd to their feet dancing to popular rock and classic rock tunes.

A performance by Norwood, a rising soulful/pop Atlanta artist, will follow. Since the launch of his career in 2009, he has appeared on TV, radio, in a pre-game concert for the Atlanta Braves, and as an opening act for the legendary B.B King. He was named Macy’s Rising Star of 2009 and performed at the lighting of the Macy’s Great Tree at Thanksgiving. 

Metro Jazz Club, a 17-piece Big Band, is dedicated to the preservation of jazz, swing and the bold brass/rock of the 70s and 80s. Their music is complemented by the vocal stylings of Maxine Cummins.
