'Ben Franklin' Appearing at Duluth History Museum

Actor to portray Franklin Saturday, March 2. Actress presenting a program on his wife, Deborah Reed Franklin, the following Saturday.

Atlanta actor "Barefoot" Bill Pacer will appear as Benjamin Franklin and present a program on his life, his politics and his inventions at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Duluth History Museum.

“Most people forget Franklin was an inventor, however, everyone knows he was influential in helping to shape our founding documents,” said Judy Wilson, president of the Duluth Historical Society, in a press release announcing March events at the museum.

“Come and enjoy a look back. A donation of $5 is appreciated to help with his traveling expenses. Stay after and tour our wonderful museum with its current exhibit of U.S. Presidents.”

Later the same day from 1-3 p.m., children ages 4-8 are invited to participate in the Tail Waggin’ Therapy Dogs Reading Program. While children read to the certified therapy dogs, parents are welcome to tour the museum. Certified dog handlers will be onsite.

The event is free, but donations are appreciated. Light refreshments will be served.

Actress LaDonna Allison will portray Deborah Reed Franklin, Ben Franklin’s amazing wife, at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, to celebrate Women's History Month. At noon she will appear as Mary Gay, a Georgia humanitarian who helped feed and clothe Confederate soldiers and their families. A $5 donation for each program will help with traveling expenses.

Local historical storyteller Candace Morgan will follow Alice Harrell Strickland during the development of early Duluth at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16. Attendees will learn about Strickland, an outspoken female rights activist and politician, through the eyes of her friend Hattie. A donation of $5 is suggested.
