What's the Latest With New Hotel at Gwinnett Center?

The proposed $57 million hotel is deemed essential for attracting larger groups.

Talks are continuing between Gwinnett tourism officials and a developer about a new convention-type hotel for the Gwinnett Center complex in unincorporated Duluth.

Things are still in the negotiation phase, according to Lisa Anders of the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau (GCVB).

An operations and management agreement is being worked on, Anders added. Once that is completed, it will be presented to the GCVB board of directors for approval, and then it will be sent to the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners for their approval.

Approvals could be finalized by the end of the year.

Anders said the GCVB is in "serious need" of such a hotel. Groups would commit to staying in Gwinnett if there was such a hotel, and there are groups the GCVB could bid on if there were such a hotel.

Nilhan Hospitality is the would-be developer, as they were the only firm that met the requirements of the RFP issued by the GCVB.

The hotel would be constructed and managed with private funds. Gwinnett County tax monies would not be involved.
