Tie Dye 4 Bakery Closes

Owner Deborah McCart closes Main Street bakery in downtown Duluth to focus on her party business.

Tie Dye 4 Bakery owner Deborah McCart posted a notice on the door and announced on Facebook Friday that she was closing the bakery on Main Street in downtown Duluth Sunday, April 15. Her Tie Dye 4 Parties business will continue operating.

“I took the adventure of the bakery on, why not? It was a great run, but not a profitable one, thus I will go back and focus on what I love and keep partying,” McCart said in the Facebook notice.

The donuts, pastries, brownies, cakes and pies at the bakery were available at half price Friday and Saturday. McCart also offered the brightly colored 1960s retro chairs and wall hangings that decorated the bakery for sale.

McCart is compiling a list of her large bakery equipment and indicated she would send the list by email to anyone interested in buying the equipment.

She plans to continue to fill orders for custom cakes and desserts. “I still love to decorate cakes and will continue to do that. You may contact me through email to order gourmet brownies, cheesecakes, decorated cakes, all your favorites, and I will bring them to the party store when you need them,” McCart said.

The custom cake business will operate under the name Schmidt's Cakes and Bakes, McCart said. Orders can be picked up at the party store or be delivered, she said.

On- and off-site birthday parties will return, she also said. “Thanks so much to everyone, and don't be sad! Party on with Tie Dye 4!” McCart said she would offer cake decorating classes and summer activities for children.

McCart opened Tie Dye 4 Parties last May, and launched the bakery last fall, moving the party store entrance to West Lawrenceville Street.

In addition to homemade baked goods, the Tie Dye 4 Bakery sold croissant sandwiches, Fair Trade coffee, espresso and lattes.
