Attention, Target shoppers. There will be one less location in Gwinnett County soon.

In a news release dated Jan. 10, the national retailer announced that its store in Duluth will be closed, due to its financial performance. The store is located at 3935 Venture Drive, near Gwinnett Place Mall.

The closing date is set for May 3, 2014, the release said. It is one of eight Target locations nationally that will be closed for financial reasons. No other Target locations in Georgia were affected.

Employees at the affected Target locations will be offered an opportunity to transfer to a similar position at a nearby Target location, the release said.

No surprise there, really. The Gwinnett Place area of Duluth needs serious help. We avoid it like the proverbial plague.

It's tough with Costco right across the street...

I never think of shopping at that store. Just another step closer to the eventual demise of Gwinnett Place.

This really does not surprise me. The store never really had a good selection of clothes. There is one bad thing this is where my husband gets his meds. I guess we will have to see what to do about transferring to another store.

No surprise to most of us. Target does not have the type of store that has what some call quality merchandise. Think that it is French owned. It has been reported that this chain does not permit the Salvation Army and others to be on their property. After recent events involving Target would not be surprised to see more Target stores closing.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

Target is American owned. It did kick the Salvation Army bell ringers off-site several years ago due to customer complaints about the noise (bad call, IMHO).

Target has been very out spoken about it's choice to not support American Troops. I would be okay with EVERY Target store closing.

Those posting about Target not supporting troops, being owned by non-U.S. or Muslim entities, etc., are misinformed. Target is headquartered in Minnesota and dates back to 1902 when it was founded as the Dayton Dry Goods Co. It supports many charitable causes, including the World War II and Vietnam Veterans memorials, and was recognized as an "outstanding employer" of National Guard and Reserve members.
