Sno Biz a Cool Way to Beat the Heat

Main Street Duluth shop offers shaved ice sno balls, Nathan's hot dogs, cheese Nachos, gourmet ice cream, smoothies, and cookies.

Sno Biz Shaved Ice & Treats offers a cool way to beat the heat. Its Hawaiian/New Orleans-style shaved ice Sno Balls in a choice of 40 flavors are unlike the average sno cone. The ice is shaved into flakes rather than crushed. A Sno Biz Sno Ball “melts in your mouth like snow,” according to Darlene Major, owner of the new business on Main Street in Historic Downtown Duluth. And it does.

Colorful signs announces the arrival of Sno Biz in a 1,000-square-foot storefront at 3107 Main St., Suite A, at the corner of Main and West Lawrenceville streets. Major, a Lawrenceville resident, opened the business softly in May and has been making adjustments since to accommodate Duluth customer preferences including hours of operation. Presently, Sno Biz Shaved Ice & Treats is open from 2:30-9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Noon-9 p.m. Saturday, and 1:30-7 p.m. Sunday.

Her Sno Biz flavors include Banana, Birthday Cake, Blueberry, Bubblegum, Canteloupe, Cinnamon, Coconut, Cola, Cotton Candy, Grape, Guava, Lemon, Lime, Mango, Orange, Passion Fruit, Peach, Pina Colada, Pineapple, Raspberry, Root Beer, Spearmint, Strawberry, Tutti Frutti, Vanilla, Watermelon, and more. During Happy Hour from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, shaved ice Sno Balls are half price.

Sno Biz also sells Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs topped with a choice of chili, relish, onions, or sauerkraut; cheese Nachos, gourmet ice cream, smoothies, and cookies. Free Wi-Fi is available.

Major said she chose Duluth as the location for Sno Biz because of the downtown activity and the city’s history. “There are lot of festivals and events going on down here,” she said. “And I like the history of the area. I’m located in a 130-year-old building.”
