NCR 'Fundamentally Changing' Key Business Sector With Deals

The Duluth-based company announces $1.7 billion in acquisitions.

Already a global player in consumer-oriented technology, Duluth-based NCR has announced two acquisitions that it says will reshape its financial services business.

According to media reports and news releases, NCR has announced an agreement to purchase Digital Insight Corporation, a leader in online and mobile banking solutions, for $1.65 billion. Also, NCR said it has acquired Alaric Systems Limited, a provider of secure transaction switching and fraud prevention software, for about $84 million.

"Today, we are fundamentally and permanently changing our largest line of business, Financial Services," NCR CEO Bill Nuti said in a news release. "With the announcements of our agreement to purchase Digital Insight and our acquisition of Alaric Systems, NCR becomes a powerful, global FinTech solutions provider enabling retail banks to deliver on the promise of omni-channel capabilities – on top of an unparalleled, innovative software platform."

According to bizjournals.com, Alaric Systems' payments processing and fraud prevention software allows financial institutions, processors and retailers to manage ATM, point of sale, e-commerce and mobile payment or banking transactions. Alaric Systems powers more than 1.25 billion transactions a month across 30 countries.

By adding Digital Insight, NCR said it will add to its ability to serve the mid-market retail banking segment, which includes Digital Insight’s highly diversified customer base. That consists of of more than 1,000 financial institutions with 12 million online banking users and nearly 4.8 million mobile end users. 

NCR, with about 26,000 employees, also has banking software, and check-in software for airport and hotel services among its offerings.
