Gwinnett Unemployment Rate Lower Than Metro Atlanta

Preliminary data for May, June reported by Georgia Department of Labor.

Gwinnett County's unemployment rate was at 7.4 percent in May and rose to 7.9 percent for the month of June. This preliminary data was reported by the Georgia Department of Labor.

The county's rate is lower than metro Atlanta’s rate of 8.9 percent in June, which was up seven-tenths of a percentage point from 8.2 percent in May.

According to the labor department, the rates increased primarily because of two seasonal factors: high numbers of education workers are unemployed during the summer and new graduates are considered unemployed until they find a job.

Gwinnett County's labor force was at  443,921 individuals in June, with 35,215 of those unemployed.
