Gwinnett Place CID's Lifespan Extended Six Years

Leo Wiener elected CID Board chairman. Former chairman Mark Williams to be secretary-treasurer.

The Gwinnett Place CID has been granted another six more years to promote economic development and implement community improvements.

Electors representing commercial property owners near Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth Wednesday (April 13) overwhelmingly voted in favor of extending the lifespan of the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District, according to an announcement by the CID. State law requires a formal vote, usually every five to six years, prior to the expiration of a CID’s term.

The vote ensures the CID’s continued leadership in economic development and infrastructure improvement, especially with the conversion of the Pleasant Hill Road bridge over Interstate 85 into a diverging-diamond interchange to improve traffic flow, according to Gwinnett Place CID Executive Director Joe Allen.

“Our property owners recognize the importance of maintaining our momentum for years to come,” Allen said in the announcement. “The bridge replacement project alone is nearing a crucial time when plans turn to action as construction begins in early 2012.” It’s reassuring to know that the CID will remain in place to lead the I-85 bridge conversion and many other projects, he said.

CID Board Members Leo Wiener and Joe Piccolo were re-elected to three-year terms. Wiener, a principal/partner with Glenwood Development Co., owner of Mall Corners, also was elected CID Board chairman. Piccolo is the area general manager for Mall of Georgia and Gwinnett Place Mall.

“The officers and members of the CID Board of Directors are very aware of the fiduciary responsibilities entrusted to us by our property owners, and we are working to prudently and wisely manage those resources,” Wiener said in the announcement.

Marcy Adams, manager of the Atlanta Marriott Gwinnett Place, will serve as vice chairman. Former CID Board chairman Mark Williams, owner of Printing Trade Co, will become secretary-treasurer.

The Gwinnett Place CID’s first board of directors was elected In April 2005.
