Tropical Evening Filled With Art, Fun

Duluth Art Gallery transformed into tropical paradise for Arts at Twilight scholarship fundraiser.

The Duluth Art Gallery was transformed into a tropical paradise for the Duluth Fine Arts League’s third annual Arts at Twilight Saturday (July 16) night. The gallery was decorated with white lights, palm trees, tropical flowers, fishnets, and sea shells. It was filled with art that guests, many attired in flowery shirts and sundresses, admired during the “Evening in the Tropics.”

The tropical island-like scene featured a tiki hut serving glasses of fruity Sangria, red and white wine along with a buffet of tropically inspired foods catered by Proof of the Pudding. The array included salad boats garnished with grilled shrimp, miniature spring rolls, coconut chicken lollipops, teriyaki chicken wings, skewered beef planks, and hot dog buns filled with shrimp salad. The dessert selection featured  coconut cupcakes, mango pudding cups, miniature pineapple upside-down cakes, and key lime flavored white chocolates.

Steel drum music was provided by Henderson Massiah of Hendy’s Steel Vibes. The silent auction offered artwork, wearable art, hand-crafted jewelry, gift baskets, sports tickets, and gift certificates that the highest bidders carried away at the end of the evening.

Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris, founder and president of DFAL, thanked the sponsors and introduced Kay Montgomery, who chaired the event. Proceeds from the tropical-themed evening will provide college scholarships to Duluth High School seniors majoring in art, Harris said.

In addition to Proof of the Pudding, sponsors of the event were First Citizens Bank, Duluth Wine, Beer & Spirits, Chocolate Perks, and Fairway Carwash.
