Duluth’s New Dawn Theater Company presents powerful Pulitzer Prize-winning drama.

New Dawn Theater Company in Duluth is presenting "A Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" as its fall production. The powerful Putlitzer Prize-winning drama opened Thursday, Oct. 11, with a free 8 p.m. performance as part of the Gwinnett County Public Library's Fall Into the Arts program.

The play is based on a novel by Herman Wouk drawn from his World War II experiences. New Dawn Theater President/Artistic Director Sherry Ingbritsen is directing the production.

Acting in the military courtroom drama are Jay Croft, Mike Yow, John Mistretta, John Laszlo, Roger Ferrier. Steve Werner, David Allen, Eric Arvidson, Charles Hannum, Chuck Mason, Joe Springer, John Brackett, Paul Ingbritsen, Keith Burke, Bruce Saarela, Mike Stevens, Robert Seith, Andy Hoeckele, Ramona Werner, and Marla Krohn.

The play depicts the court martial proceedings against an upright lieutenant who relieved his captain of command in the midst of a harrowing typhoon on the grounds that the captain was psychopathic in the crisis. "The  lieutenant felt the captain was directing the ship and its crew to certain death and destruction," Ingbritsen said.

"The odds, along with all naval tradition are against the lieutenant. However, as the witnesses enter the scene and are cross-examined during the trial, the weakness of the character of the captain is revealed in a devastating picture of personal disintegration," she said.

Regular performance dates are Oct. 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, and 28. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
