Spend an 'Evening in the Tropics' in Duluth Tonight

Duluth Fine Arts League's exotic evening at the Duluth Art Gallery to raise funds for art scholarships.

An 'Evening in the Tropics” means balmy breezes…palm trees…the sound of waves slapping the shore…steel drum music…flowery shirts and sundresses...flip flops and sandals. Add some art, and it’s the Duluth Fine Arts League’s Arts at Twilight.

The exotic evening, sponsored by the Duluth Fine Arts League, will feature hors d’oeuvres, wine, a silent auction and a steel drum musician from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Duluth Art Gallery, 3530 W. Lawrenceville St., near the Town Green. Guests will stroll through the art in the downtown Duluth gallery while sipping wine and sampling hors d’oeuvres.

Proceeds from the tropical-themed evening will provide college scholarships to Duluth High School seniors majoring in art, according to Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris, the founding president of DFAL. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

“This is such an important event for the Duluth Fine Arts League in that we want to raise as much money as possible to fund our high school seniors scholarship program," Harris said. “To date we have issued $6,000 in scholarship money for students who will pursue the study of fine arts in post secondary schools.”

“The purpose of the Duluth Fine Arts League is to educate and engage citizens in fine arts," she said. "This will be our third annual Arts at Twilight event, and this year we have another wonderful silent auction planned.”
