New Dawn Theater Opening New Play This Weekend

Award-winning 'Death of a Salesman' follows deterioration of traveling salesman fired from job.

New Dawn Theater Company in Duluth is presenting a 1949 play with a plot relatable to the loss of jobs and self-esteem in today’s depressed economy. “Death of a Salesman,” written by Arthur Miller, won the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. The production runs Oct. 14-30 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

The powerful play depicts the last 24 hours and deterioration of 61-year-old traveling salesman Willy Loman after he is fired from his job at the Wagner Company where he has worked for 34 years. It is set in Yonkers, NY.

"Death of a Salesman" is directed by Joanie McElroy. The cast includes Diane Dicker as Willy's wife Linda Loman, Michael Carroll as Willy Loman, John Laszlo as the neighbor Ben, Josh Henry as Willy's son Biff, Joshua Simpson as Willy's other son Happy, Boyd Gossett, James Connor, Katy Clarke, Scott Kale, Brandi Kilgore, Cat Roche, and Chase McElroy.

New Dawn Theater is located at 3087 Main Street in downtown Duluth. For more information call the box office at 678-887-5015. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students. Due to the nature and topic of this show, parental guidance is suggested.

New Dawn’s 2011-2012 schedule includes “Dad’s Christmas Miracle” in December, “Run for Your Wife” in February and March, “Murder on the Nile” (a dinner theater) in April and May, “Sleeping Beauty” in June, “You Can’t Take It With You” in August, and “The Caine Mutiny Court Martial” next October. Season tickets are available at $70 for adults, $55 for senior citizens, and $45 for students/children.
