New Dawn Departing From Usual Theater Fare With 'Beaux Strategem'

New Dawn Theater in Duluth is departing from the type of plays that audiences generally expect in community theater with its production of “Beaux Strategem” July 25-28.

The classic 1707 romantic comedy by George Farquhar showcases actors with witty dialogue, sparkling repartee and elegant movement in 19th century costumes, according to New Dawn President and Artistic Director Sherry Ingbritsen.

The actors include Katy Clarke as Lady Bountiful, J. Michael Carroll as the loveable rogue Jack Archer, Bridget Shepard as Kate Sullen, Paige Steadman as the robber Hounslow Bagshot, Scott King as Archer’s lovesick friend Aimwell, and Dave Schroeder as a robber who also preaches.

Charles Hannum is directing the production.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, July 25-27 with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, July 28. The doors open 30 minutes prior to performances.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 15 and under and seniors 51 and over. Discount tickets are available for groups of 10 or more.
