Governor Gets Festive in Duluth

Nathan Deal and other state, county and city leaders kick off 2013 Fall Festival events Saturday.

Yes, that was Gov. Nathan Deal poking around among the power tools and tailgating gear in Man's Corner at the Duluth Fall Festival on Saturday.

But word is, his wife won't mind, because Sandra Deal was also in the area for the 2013 festival.

"Everyone acknowledges that this is one of the largest festivals, and has been for a number of years," the governor said of his presence at the festival, which included him being grand marshal of Saturday's parade.

Deal also noted that a couple of elected leaders from the area, state Rep. Brooks Coleman and state Sen. David Shafer, invited him to the festival, which continues through Sunday.

"It's nice to be here," Deal added. "I don't think we could ask for a better beginning to fall than we have today."

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deal told the crowd at the Festival Center, "What a beautiful venue ..."

Also attending were Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris,Β Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash, and Coleman.
