Duluth's Roots on Display at Fall Festival

The annual event concludes its 2013 run Sunday.

The downtown Duluth area Saturday was a sea of humanity that included strollers, some unique vendors, and food that would make a dietitian angry. Nobody was complaining.

And the festive small town atmosphere at the Duluth Fall Festival was also evident during the opening ceremony at the Festival Center. Mayor Nancy Harris told the crowd that Brooks Coleman, the state legislator who also was master of ceremonies, was her fifth-grade teacher.

"This has got to be the best small town in America," Harris told the crowd before the two-day festival officially began.

And so the two-day event unfolded. Activities continue Sunday.
