Who'll Be the New Top Dog in Duluth?

There are four candidates to become the new mayor of Chattapoochee, the dog park.

Further proof that it's an election year in Duluth: Challengers are lining up to be the new mayor of Chattapoochee, the city's dog park.

According to a city news release, there are four Top Dog candidates. They were selected from applicants by members of the Parks and Recreation staff and Parks Advisory Board.

The candidates are (see attached screenshots):

  • Honey, a 4-year-old Great Dane;
  • Marley, a 3-year-old Golden Lab;
  • Moon Pie, a 1-year-old Chocolate Lab;
  • Penny, a 3-year-old Lab/Golden Retriever.
Voting will run through the weekend of the Duluth Fall Festival (Sept. 28-29). Polling locations are:
  • Duluth Animal Hospital – 2965 Buford Highway;
  • Crave Pie Studio- 3107-B Main Street;
  • Tiger Tales Animal Hospital – 2605 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard;
  • 2 Smith Art Gallery – 3150 Main Street, Suite 101;
  • City of Duluth Bunten Road Activity Building – 3180 Bunten Road.
The election winner will be announced October 6, 2 p.m., at the Chattapoochee Pet Fest at Rogers Bridge Park.

Shiner is the outgoing mayor.
