The earthquake Tuesday that forced evacuation of the White House and the Pentagon was felt in the Atlanta area.

The Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville issued a statement saying that the Magnitude 5.9 earthquake was felt in Bartow County.

"The earthquake was recorded on the Tellus Seismograph, and I have attached a copy of the seismogram. The earthquake occurred at precisely 1:51 PM and the seismic waves arrived at Tellus in just under two minutes," read the statement from Julian C. Gray, museum curator.

"I was finishing lunch at approximately 1:50 p.m. while in my chair watching TV when I felt an odd sensation as if my chair was moving back and forth. It lasted no more than 5 seconds. I thought it was a weird sensation as I looked around the room to see if anything else was moving. Not seeing any disturbance, I chalked it up to my vivid imagination. Fifteen minutes later, my wife asked me if I saw the report on TV about an earthquake in the NE Corridor," Bliss said.

The earthquake was also felt at Duluth City Hall: Duluth Code Compliance Planner William Aiken was working on a computer in the Planning Department on the second floor around 2 p.m. "The vents shook a little bit," he said."I thought it was the air conditioner kicking on or off. A couple of pictures on the file cabinet rattled. Then Alisa (Williams, the city's director of public information and marketing,) came running out of her office asking: 'Does anyone feel that?" Tim Lawrence, the city's GIS manager, then forwarded an email to William from an engineer friend in Virginia Beach, VA, about the earthquake being felt all over New York and Virginia.
