Duluth-Area Park Added to National Trails System

Trail located in McDaniel Farm Park was among four Gwinnett trails added to the list in honor of National Trails Day.

A Duluth-area trail has been added to the National Trails System, the county commission said in a press release.

The trail located at McDaniel Farm Park was among four Gwinnett trails added to the list in honor of National Trails Day on June 7. 

Harbins Park and Little Mulberry Park near Dacula, and Settles Bridge Park near Suwanee were also added.

The U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and National Park Service Jonathan Jarvis announced the addition of 452 miles of trails in 11 states last week.

“This is an exciting time for parks and recreation in Gwinnett County,” Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash said in the press release. “I am so proud that all four trails named in Georgia this year are within our very own county parks system.”

The national recreation trail designation recognizes existing trails and trail systems that link communities to recreational opportunities on public lands and in local parks across the nation. Each of the new national recreation trails will receive a certificate of designation, a letter of congratulations from Secretary Jewell and a set of trail markers.
