Duluth Public Arts Commission Is Shaping Up

Several people have applied to be on the new panel.

Duluth is moving closer to forming a Public Arts Commission.

According to city officials, nine people have applied for the panel, and eight will eventually be chosen. One City Council member will also serve on the nine-member commission.

The application on the city websiteΒ gives the following mission for the arts panel:

The vision for the DPAC and intention of this program is to preserve the City’s heritage, enhance its character and identity, contribute to economic development and tourism, add beauty and interest to public spaces and architecture and increase opportunities for the public to experience, and participate in the arts. This will be done through the performance, acquisition and installation of world- class public art.

City Council plans to discuss the appointments at the scheduled work session on Monday, Sept. 23. The official appointments will take place at the council meeting on Oct. 14.
