Does the 10th & Piedmont area need a better identifying name?

“Gay Ground Zero” has been suggested, while others have mentioned variations using the number 10 considering the coming restaurants to the area.

Thursday night, the Midtown Neighbors’ Association has scheduled its third Shining Light Safety Walk of 1012. The group asked those wishing to participate to “meet up with your neighbors at Piedmont and 10th.”

In the coming weeks at this highly visible Midtown corner, a pair of similar-sounding restaurants will open. At 990 Piedmont Avenue, “10” will open in the former Five Napkin Burger space. Across the street, “10th & Piedmont” will open at 991 Piedmont Ave. in the former Outwrite Bookstore location.

Could get a bit confusing when explaining to friends which establishment to meet you at, eh?

Which leads to this Midtown Patch Question of the Day. Does this area of Midtown, one that is especially gay friendly, need some kind of better indentifying name? People immediately know where you’re talking about when you mention spots such as Little Five Points or East Atlanta Village.

But the area surrounding the intersection of 10th Street and Piedmont Ave. has no such distinctive name? Does it need one? Someone suggested “Gay Ground Zero,” while others have mentioned variations using the number 10 considering the coming restaurants.

Or maybe as the MNA suggested, "Piedmont and 10th" works just fine. What do you think?

This is so stupid. Ditto to above. I especially hated the "every day is an opening day" mantra with Andrew Young's voice. It was really regrettable.

No Marc, statistically speaking the high frequency of your comments overstates the actual frequency of the problem. This is because you consistently post nearly the same comment on all of the initial Midtown crime posts as well as all subsequent updates, and even suspect capture posts. Maybe you should adopt a new phrase for the capture posts that highlights thanking the hardworking police officials and good citizens of Midtown for their persistence and diligence in helping capture these criminals. One to grow on buddy…

I think this corner does deserve a name. How about Piedmont Place?

How about the 'Meat Packing District'?

Don't know that it needs a name; but if you want to call it something, given that intown already has L5P and O4W, how about 10P (or P10)?
