Georgia United Credit Union Awards School Crasher Makeover To Chapel Hill Elementary School in DeKalb County

Georgia United Credit Union is excited to announce the WINNER of their SCHOOL CRASHER Makeover Program…. Chapel Hill Elementary School of DeKalb County! Chapel Hill’s makeover was chosen from among 752 nominations from schools across the state during the month of April. Georgia United’s judges had a difficult time choosing just one winner from so many deserving applicants.

Local schools were encouraged to apply for a facility “makeover” through Georgia United’s website and promoted through partnership with Star94, 11Alive and 790theZone. The goal is to bring our communities together to support local schools and their school systems! Any accredited public, private or parochial school in Georgia was eligible to submit a 250 word statement why their school should receive a makeover.  The winning school was announced today live and on air at noon with Donna Lowry, Education Reporter from 11 Alive, along with DeKalb County Superintendent Michael Thurmond and Georgia United CEO Debbie Smith.

Chapel Hill Elementary School is located at 3536 Radcliffe Boulevard in Decatur and has 587 students.  They will receive their specifically requested “school makeover” project the weekend of July 25 and 26, so the project will be completed in time for the new school year in August.

There will be opportunities for community members, educators, parents and students to join Georgia United employees to volunteer for this School Crash event. Check out  www.georgiaunitedcu.org/schoolcrashers in the coming weeks for additional information.

If your school was nominated and not this year’s School Crash Winner, stay tuned for additional announcements of “runners up” schools who will receive mini grants for their own improvement projects later this summer.
