What Do Condoleezza Rice and Archie Manning Have in Common?
Five things to know about this and future college football postseasons.
We are into the meat of the 2013 college football season, as evidenced by the fact that the first Bowl Championship Series standings have just been released.
Which means its time for some interesting things about the BCS, and what it's about to become:
- SEC DOES NOT DOMINATE: Although the SEC has won the past seven BCS titles, it has just two teams (Alabama and Missouri) in the current Top 10.
- WHEN IS THE BCS TITLE GAME?: The title game is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2014, in Pasadena, Calif.
- BYE, BYE, BCS: This is the last year of the much-maligned BCS. The new College Football Playoff system will take effect after the 2014 season. The Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta will become part of the rotation.
- WHAT'S THIS ABOUT CONDOLEEZZA RICE?: Seems that a committee already has been named to select teams for the new College Football Playoff. Rice, the former U.S. Secretary of State, and Archie Manning, former Ole Miss and NFL quarterback, is among them.
- WHEN IS SEC TITLE GAME?: It's not a BCS game, but the 2013 SEC title game will be in Atlanta on Dec. 7.
