The first Friday in June is designated as National Doughnut Day. Get a free doughnut at several Gwinnett County locations.

So, for this day -- and this day only -- feel free to throw your exercise plans and healthy eating out the window. (You can get back to that on Saturday.)

But, on Friday head on over to your favorite doughnut place and grab a freebie. Many shops will be celebrating.

Krispy Kreme will be giving away one doughnut to each person -- and no purchase is needed.

In Gwinnett, there are Krispy Kreme locations in Lilburn, Buford and Duluth.

At Dunkin' Donuts patrons can get a free doughnut with the purchase of a beverage while supplies last.

According to The Salvation Army, this is the 76th year for National Doughtnut Day, which got its start as a fundraiser during the Great Depression, and as a way to comfort American soldiers.

So, you see this is a good thing we're doing -- eating doughnuts and honoring soldiers at the same time.
