Senior Center Opening for Meetings

Grand opening for new Duluth Senior Citizens Activity Center at W.P. Jones Park planned in January.

A January grand opening is planned for the new Senior Citizens Activity Center in W.P. Jones Park, according to Duluth Parks and Recreation Director Kathy Marelle.

“We are looking at the first of the year” for the grand opening, Marelle said. Construction on improvements to Pleasant Hill Road in front of the park has partially blocked the entrance in front of the center, she said.

The center will open for public meetings starting in mid-November, Marelle said. The Korean Task Force is scheduled to meet in the new center Nov. 13. The Duluth Parks Advisory Board will meet there Nov. 14.

Ground was broken and construction started on the 2,400-square-foot center for active seniors last January.

The center will serve the more than 300 members of the FAB (Fifty And Beyond) Club and as an events rental facility.

Renaissance Building Construction built the 2,400-square-foot center, which was designed by Hill Foley Rossi and Associates.

W.P. Jones Park is located off Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.
