Police Find Wanted Man Hiding in Attic

Along with Marvin Bailey, three children also were being hid inside the Duluth apartment.

Gwinnett Sheriff's deputies located a wanted man Monday (June 10)hiding inside the attic of an apartment building he was known to frequent in Duluth.

According to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, the man -- Marvin Bailey of Stone Mountain -- was wanted on outstanding warrants for criminal trespass, third-degree cruelty to children, and battery stemming from a domestic dispute in May.

When police arrived at the apartment on Monday they heard the sound of children crying inside, and proceeded to the rental office to obtain a key.

When the police returned, a woman -- later identified as the children's mother Philathea Knowles -- told deputies that the unit was hers, and there was no on inside, including no children, officials said in a press release.

But, deputies entered the home, anyhow, and noticed a chair placed under the open attic entrance.

Eventually, they found two children being hid in the attic, and another child hidden under a blanket in the apartment, according to the press release.

Bailey was discovered huddled in the attic, as well.

He was then taken into custody. In addition to the previous warrants, police arrested Bailey on new charges -- three counts of reckless conduct.

Knowles was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

The children were released to a family member who was called to the scene.Β  Bailey and Philathea Knowles were transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.Β  Bailey is being held with no bond and has a hold for the Stone Mountain Police Department.
